KAISER AND DUKE.

A RECONCILIATION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Berlin, April 11. The Kaiser welcomed tlie Duke of Cumberland and his son at Homburg. The city was decorated. Crowds witnessed the, reconciliation between the Kaiser and the Mouse of Cumberland, thus ending the long-standing dispute which, when the Duchess of Cumberland died, led the Kaiser to refuse, to attend the funeral and forbid any member of the- Hohenzollcrn family attending. The eldest son of the Duke of Cumberland is to marry the only daughter ot the Kaiser. The Duke, who was tlje only son of George V. of Hanover, took part with his father, as an ally of Austria, in the campaign against Prussia which ended in the defeat at Langensalza I (1800). On the death of his father, in IS7S, lie proclaimed his right to the crown of Hanover, though he finally abandoned the claim in 181)2. On the death of the Duke of Brunswick in 1844, without direct heir, the Duke of Cumberland became heir to that duchy, though he was not allowed by the German Federal Council to govern it. The conciliation now ell'ect will probably permit the Kaiser's son-in-law to hold the position from which his father was debarred. The Duke is the great-gran.l-son of Ernest Augustus, fifth son of George ITT., and married Princess Thyra of Denmark, so his eldest son, George William, is related to the British Royal Family on both sides.
