THE AMOKURA CHARGES.
A SECRET REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The report of the private enquiry made by Mr. G. Allport, secretary for the Marine Department, into the alleged punishment of boys on the Amokura has been furnished to the ActingMinister for Marine (the Hon. H. D. Bell), who stated to-day that it is not the intention of the Government to make the report public at present. What Mr. Bell was willing to say at present was that no punishment has ever been inflicted on boys except by Captain Hooper, commander of the Amokura, himself. It is understood that the report goes to show that the punishment said to have been inflicted was justified, and that there has been no unnecessary severity in the treatment of the boys punished.
