AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

COMMITTEE MEETING. At a meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society this week Messrs Connett and H. Okey, M.P., were appointed delegates to represent the Society at the annual conference of agricultural societies to be held in August next.

It was decided to forward a remit to the conference urging the Government to grant excursion fares to people travelling with show stock to and from shows. 'The schedule for the forthcoming Winter Show,was thoroughly revised and a number of new classes were added. Several medals, were added to special prizes offered in connection with the dairy produce classes. .Mr. Street has presented a cup valued at £5 5s for the champion loaf of home-made bread. Mr. S. J. Smith has presented a challenge cup valued at £5 5s for the best bird in the poultry section of the show, and the Society has added five gold medals, to be competed for as follows: Best bird in the Orpington classes, best Plymouth Rock, host Leghorn (any color), English type, best Leghorn (any color), American type, and best bird in the working homer pigeon classes. A committee, consisting of Messrs Grant, Moore, Johnson and Baglcy was delegated to draw up a programme for the proposed sheep dog trial to be held during Winter Show week. A committee, consisting of Messrs Moore, Boulton. Brooks, Scott and Moverley was appointed to select judges in connection witli the forthcoming poultry show which will he held in conjunction with the Winter Show. Mention was made of the fact that a large number of applications had already been received from tradespeople for space for tradesmen's displays and also for machinery exhibits at the Winter Show. It is necessary that those desiring space should forward their applications as early as possible. It is hoped to have the schedule ready for distribution in a few days.
