HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.
NO POLL AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Ihe scrutiny of the names to the petition asking for a poll on the Saturday half-holiday question has showed that out of (5570 signatures attached to the lequisition, only 2673 were passed as valid. Mr. Palmer (Town Clerk) in reporting to the City Council,, stated the total number of electors on the combined rolls, including Karon. Onslow, Miramar. and Johnsonville was 27,578, and of these ten per cent, was necessary for holding a poll, so that the valid signatures were 84 short. The Town Clerk, therefore, states that he is unable to issue instructions for a poll to be taken.
