GOVERNOR IN TROUBLE.
THE GIBRALTAR COMPLAINTS. By Cable —Press Association —Copyrignt. London. April 11. General Sir Archibald Hunter. Governor of Gibraltar, has been granted three months' leave, to enable the local representations reported 011 February "25 to be considered.
Ever-increasing excitement and anxiety regarding the future prevails in Gibraltar, arising chiefly from the speech of the Governor, General Sir Archibald Hunter. 011 .lanuary 31 last. On that occasion the Governor said that he knew Gibraltar better than anybody else; that the Chamber of Commerce thought of nobody but themselves; that Gibraltar juries were "nolnrio:i-!v unju-t" (this passage was an aside by the Governor, and did not appear in the Gazette): that he might soon have to establish a press censorship: that Gihraitians speak English worse than Egyptian donkey-boys; and that "this town is like the Augean stables.'' and "1 am determined to extract order and decency here from everybody who conies into the fortress I command."
