CIRCULAR ROAD RACE.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The third annual meeting of ttie Circular Road Rate ConimilU'u was 'held in the Town Hall last night, when there was a good attendance. Mr. J. Williams (president) occupied the chair. The second annual report congratulated supporters on the success that had attended the second race event, financially and otherwise. The year commenced with a debit balance of £7 15s !)d, which had been converted into a credit balance of £i'J 4s sd. The total receipts wore £234 (is 7(1, made up of donations and subscriptions £ISB lis, entertainment committee, • £72 12s 9d, Brooke's and Moon's collections £ls, nominations and gate-proceeds £7B 10s 4d. Despite the fac,t that the weather again was not favourable, the public patronised the racecourse for the finish of the race in very large numbers, showing unmistakably that the public interest in the race was assured. The race continues to hold pride of place as the most valuable in Australasia, and it was almost assured that several riders of note from the Commonwealth would [ this year be competitors, as well as increasing numbers of our own riders. The thanks of the Race Committee were due to the press for the publicity given to the event, to the business people for their generous support, to donating firms in the cycle trade for prizes, to the ladies supporting the entertainments and, finally, to the Jockey Club for giving the racecourse free of charge for the finish of the race. The committee hoped that by a continuance of the enthusiasm heretofore displayed this year's event would he even a more notable success than any of its predecessors. The Treasurer (Mr. E. Whittle) read the balance-sheet at length. The receipts are summarised in tht s report. T)ip expenditure amounted to £lO4 17s 2d, the principal items being prize money £123 Is.
In moving the adoption of the report. the Chairman stated that there was yet £5 to come in from the Athletic Union, which would iricrease the credit balance to £44 4a. The report was adopted without discussion. It was resolved to hold the Road Race this year on a date to be fixed by the executive. „ Mr. L .A. Edwards, manager of tire Cycle and Motor Supplies, Ltd., again promised every assistance from his firm, who presented the Challenge' Cup. He also expressed regret at being unable to attend the meeting, but noted with pleasure the fine prospects for the coming season. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, the Mayor of New Plymouth; president, Mr. Jas. McLeod; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. W. C. Weston, J. McKean, J. Bennett, Geo. Tabor, Mayors of Stratford, Eltham and Inglewood, and the Chairman of the Opunake Town Board; joint secretary, Messrs. W .Jones and B. , Yinsen; treasurer, Mr, E. Whittle (reelected). On the motion of Mr. Jas. McLeod, it was resolved to appoint an executive of seven with the officers ex officio, and the chairman and secretary of the Entertainment Committee. * The following were elected by the mepting:—Messrs. W. J. Williams, L. A.,.Edwards, J. Elliott, A. George. E. Cattley, C. E. Sadler and Jas. Clarke. General Committee, Messrs. E. M. Jones, W. Wav, J. Garcia, J .L. Smith, F. Morshead, P. George, M. Julian, Hawken, H. Moon, H. Brooks, G. Griffiths, Dineen. W. Little, 0. Kelly and A. Green (with power to add to'their number. Mr, Geo. Tabor was appointed convenor of the Entertainment Committee. Auditor, Mr. H. Stocker.
A resolution was passed, on the motion of Mr. E. Whittle, that every competitor taking part in the race must report himself to the secretary before 6 p.m. on the day of the race. Any competitor giving up during the nice, or unable to finish before 6 p.m. must notify the secretary immediately from the nearest telegraph or telephone office: any competitor failing to do 50 to be liable to a fine of £l. This was carried unanimously, as it was pointed out that it would obviate the possibility of any. competitor being injured and being lost sight of.
Hearty votes of thaiks were accorded the retiring President (Mr .Williams), the secretary (Mr. ,Tas. McLeod), assist-ant-secretary (Mr. C. Davy), entertainment secretary (Mr. J. Elliott), and treasurer (Mr. E. Whittle). Recommendations were made to the incoming committee that in future bal-ance-sheets should be published before the annual meetin?. nnd that Mr. L. A. Edwards should be asked to distribute the prizes.
