A MINER KILLED. By iclegnaph —Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. James Hewitt, 45 years of age, s married man, employed in the Nightcaps mine, was killed instantaneously to-day. He had fired a charge, but as it did not go off he returned, when an explosion occurred, causing fatal chest injuries. Deceased was a recent arrival from Homo. BODY CAST UP BY FLOODS. Inveicargill, Last Night. The body of a man was found to-day on Mataura Island, where it had been cast ti|, by the floods. The throat had been fearfully gashed, probably bjr a lazor, and the doctor states that this is the cause of death. The body has not yet been identified. . MOTOR CYCLE MISHAP. Gisborne, Last Night. A man named Alf. Kewley, while riding a motor cycle in town to-day, came into violent collision with a trap, one of the shafts of which pierced his throat. He was taken to the hospital, and is in a serious condition. He is a native of the Isie of .Man, and has no relatives in New; Zealand. At Pa tea yesterday a porter named i Frederick A. Trice, employed in the Masonic Hotel, was found dead in bed.
