CANTERBURY INFANTRY CA'MP. | PRAISE FROM THE GENERAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christcdurch, Last Night. The infantry camp at f aldhurst closed to-day with a field day, comprising attacking operations again an imaginary enemy. i At the close of the manoeuvres, General Godley assembled the officers and criticised the movements, reviewed operations and pointed out matters that deserved attention. He said he was very pleased with the way in which "the attack was conducted and the thorough [way in which the work was done. The men had kept their extension and direction well, .and the intelligence with which the fire was controlled and directed was a credit to them all. In that they had benefited so much by their brief training, it showed that they had made the most of their opportunities. He also congratulated all those who had had to do with the control of the camp. After the field inspection by General Godley yesterday, a section of the E Battery came down to take part in the manoeuvres at Yaldhurst. The balanee of the E Battery will start a trek to Christehurch this morning, as early as practicable after the camp is struck. They will rest at Courtenay to-night, arriving in Christehurch to-morrow. The H Battery entrained at Kowai Bush by special train this afternoon, going straight to Lyttelton, where they will transport for Nelson: The camp has been one of the most useful and instructive yet held under die Territorial system. The men have 'worked well, the discipline has been excellent, and the general standard of work has been very high. The West Coast half battalion of the ,13th Regiment, which left this morning, has arrived at Springfield. The Public Works engineer at the Bealey advised them of heavy floods, so that it is impossible for the troops to get through. They are returning to the camp.
