Interviewed on the subject of (lie public service examinations, Mr..Robertson, Civil Service Commissioner, said that, tlie new regulations about to be issued would show the whole position. Jbere bud never been anv intention oil the part of the commissioners to examine everybody in the .service, and there was no idea'of subjecting surveyors or lengineers to examinations, or any other men who already bad (jnalilicalions. The intention of the examinations provided for the clerical division was that officers should be enabled to show that, they were capable of performing the \vork of the department in which tliev were employed. The commissioners bad not issued instructions in any way that examinations should be bold in any unclassified department. The commissioner hoped that the new regulations would lie published before the end of the week.
