TIIvORAXGI SPORTS. (From our own correspondent.) Tlie spor.ts and picnic held at Tikonuigi under .Hie auspices of the Library Committee oil Easter Monday were au .unqualified success, and will no doubt he the forerunner of many similar functions. The morning broke cloudy and threatening, hut, with the exception of a slight shower about noon, the weather was fine and bracing .throughout the day. Each event was well contested, anil, every competitor being out to win, some close finishes were recorded. Mr. W. Alexander, as starter, gave every satisfaction, and the judges (Messrs. R. F. Lye and J. Whitehead) were prompt and correct in their decisions. The handicappers, Messrs. J. Sarton and C. 01liver. are to hi' complimented on their elforts. whilst tlie secretary (Mr. L. X. Faull) was kept busy in getting oil' the numerous events without the delay that is so often a feature of a sports gathering. The commissariat was in the capable hands of the ladies of the district, and it is sufficient to say that the reputation which they hold for the excellence of the. menu was in no wise dimmed on this occasion.
