EGMOXT VILLAGE. (From Our Own Correspondents), There was a fair attendance at the sports oil Thursday, considering ihe bois--1.11 oils state of the weather. The committee had the arrangements well in hand, and run the events off without delay. J. lliiitz, of Kaimiro. showed piomisc as a runner, winning four successive events, thereby gaining mostj points and winning the cup. Mewrsl Baxter and Davis worked hard for the children's enjoyment. The pillow light caused much amusement to the onlookers. Mr. Francis, the secretary, is to be congratulated upon the way in which he carried out his many duties and which greatly helped to make the sports a success financially. The concert held in the evening was well attended. Following was the programme submitted:—Overture. .Mr. Geo. Marsh's orchestra; song, Mr. Penwarden: song. Miss Buiiyan; song (comic). Mr. Sinclair (encored) ; song. Mr. H. Taylor; reading, Mr. Morton; song. Mr. F. Schicker; song. The hall was afterwards cleared for dancing, which was kept going till about 2.30 a.m. Mr. Geo. Marsh and family supplied the music. The Milage cricketers journeyed to Tarunitangi on Tuesday last to play a game with their obi rivals and to help to revive the game in that district. For the first time they proved too good, winning by an innings and four runs. The team was hospitably treated by the home team. Scores:—

Tin- annual school picnic was hold on tlu> 1 "tli inst.. there being a very fair attendance of both young and old. Owing lo the wet weather the picnic had lieen postponed from the previous day. The numerous events for the children were got off with a swing, which speaks well for those in charge, and the children appeared to spend a very enjoyable afternoon. Crickj't practice was indulged in by t.he grown-ups. A concert and dance were held in the evening, the programme for the concert being: —Pianoforte solo, Miss 0. Giddy; song. Mrs. Tuck; recitation, Miss lVarl Moss: song, Mr. Peat; dialogue, school children (encored): song,"Mrs. Scott; recitation, Miss Hilda P>isiiop (encored); song, Mr. T. Barnball (encored): song. Mrs. Taylor (encored): recitation. Miss Ella Bishop: song, Mrs. Bates; pianoforte duet, Misses 0. Girldv and K. Bates: song, Mr. Peat; recitation. "Miss Bice. This item was splendidly rendered, and Miss Bice had to submit to a double encore. Dialogue, school girls: song. Mrs. Tavlor (encored): duet, Mr. and Airs. Bates; song, Mrs. Tuck. At the close of the concert the chairman of the School Committee ( \!v. T. L. fehop). in a neat little speech, thanked the performers for their kind assistance and also spoke in vcrv eulogistic terms of the manner in which the children had been trained bv Miss Rice, form whom he called three cheers, which were very heartily responded to. i After supper had been handed round dancing was indulged in for a few hours, the music being supplied by Miss Hilda Bishop.
