SOUTH TARANAKI CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR UJNIIGN The annual convention of the above union, held in the Broadway church, Stratford, on Good Friday was a great success, anil, in the opinion of the Endeavorers, was one of the best yet held under, the auspices of this union. New features were introduced into the Convention by the dividing of the afternoon session into two meetings, and in holding one. in the morning. This latter meeting, which was well attended, was conducted by the president (Rev. Metson). whose address was inspiring and helpful. The sacrament of the Lord's I Supper was administered at the close, a | large number of Endeavorers partaking. The business meeting commenced at ].:i(i p.in., and was also largely attended by the Endeavorers. but considerable disappointment was felt that those from South ilawera were unable to be present. owing to the 12.30 train not running. The secretary's report was decidedly encouraging. It stated that the year lul'i-l.'i bad been one of the most successful in the history of the union; five more societies had affiliated, and nearly every society in the union had been visited by the president. There are now 15 societies, comprising a membership of 230, connected with the union. In closing, the secretary hoped that this year would 'be one of singular advance- j mcnt of the interests uf the union I throughout the district, and that it would be even more successful than the i one just. past. The balance-sheet, ou being' read, showed a healthy "balance in hand." In moving the acceptance of the report and balance-sheet, the Rev. Mr. Melson expressed his high appreciation of the work done bv the secretary (Mr. D. Everiss). • The election of officers resulted as follows: President, ■ Dev. Reader. Stratford: vice-presidents. Revs. I'attison and | Liddle: junior societies' superintendent, ' Mr. D. Everiss; secretary, Miss M. Clemow: treasurer,'-Miss G. Everiss. ; At. "2.;>0 p.m. the meeting adjourned till Ij.lj p.m., and on resuming the church was Well filled. This perhaps was the most interesting meeting of all. Twelve ' societies, most of which were well re- • presented, responded to their names at the roll call. Two splendid and well- . thought-out papers were read by representatives from the f J ill Street Baptist, ~(Kew Plymouth) and Kormanbv societies, taking as their subject 'The Endeavorer and 11 is Bible." The discussion on the /papers, was well continued, and was of ;v .helpful and inspiring nature. • After this meeting the mundane affairs of life were reverted to, and the Endeavor, ers adjourned to the. schoolroom for-tea. which had been provided by the ladies of the Stratford societies. The meetings again commenced at. 7.30 p.m.. lr.it by this time the ranks of the Enileayorers bad considerabl}- thinned, -as'the majority had to return home the same Oav, and had left by the evening train-. The meeting..however, was well attended, more visitors being present. Two splendid addresses were given by the new president (Rev. Reader), and the l!ev. Shore, of Ilawera. Before departing for their homes, the Endeavorers were once again entertained by the Stratford ladies at supper. During the day solos were rendered by Misses J. ] Eenwick (Stratford), •'Sometime We'll Understand," and Conuett (New Plymouth). and Mr. 1. Nelson (Stratford), f 'oh, for the Wings of a Dove." Mrs. and Mi.-s MacAllister sang "The Hymn of tlic Moravian /Nuns."' and Misses I!. and G. Everiss and Messrs. I. Kelson and D. Everiss, "Abide With Me." The executive, committee met in the 'evening, and decided , to hold the. midwinter lallv at Ilawera, the Ilawera societies to be asked to make the necessary arrangements.—Contributed.
