FIRES.
SMALL COTTAGE GUTTED. About seven o'clock last night the Fire Brigade received a call to the corner of Courtenay and Klliot streets,, where there was a blaze in a shed at the rear of a small cottage owned by ilrs. Crocker and occupied by Mrs. Wrath. The outbreak was extinguished by means of a bucket service-, very little damage being done. Shortly after 12.30 o'clock this morning a passer-by in a trap noticed flames again issuing from the building and sounded tha alarm. The ISrigadc were quickly on the spot, hut the lire had a strong hold. The building. -which was very old, burnt like matchwood, and by the time the fire had been got under control it was completely gutted. The building' was insured in the , South British Oll'ice for £IOO. There was very little furniture on the premises. After the first outbreak the occupant, who is an old lady living by herself, shifted her quarters to a neighboring house. The cause of the fire was no: ascertainable last night. The Superintendent (Mr. Hcllringer) told a News reporter that there seemed to be no connection with the two outbreaks, the latter occurring in the front part of the cottage.
