EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. The usual matinee will be held at the Empire Theatre this afternoon, when a complete new programme will he shown. Heading the new list is a lengthy feature film by the Selig Comp-.tny. "The Danites."' or ''The Destroying Angels,"' a thrilling story of Mormon cruelty in the Western States of Amerie.i. This .superb film will again be shown on Easter Monday night. THEATRE ROYAL PICTURES. A film that can safely be described as the greatest dramatic effort ever presented to a picture loving public was shown at the Theatre Royal ou Thursday night, in the Yitagraph :>1>0I) feet masterpiece. "The Mills of the Cods." I Maria, a tavern waitress, engaged to ! Miguel, a young workman, attracts the j attention of Lorenzo, a man of considerable wealth and position. Lorenzo, accustomed to having his own way. is infuriated when Maria resents his familiarities. Henceforth he devotes his resources to the task of avenging the slight, and Marin and Miguel, now her husband, linil their happiness thwarted on every side bv their powerful enemy. Maria is sick, but she is pitilessly tinned into the street, and carried to the hospital. Her illness becomes acute, and soon Miguel is wifeless, and left with the knowledge that he owes the ruin of his happiness to Lorenzo. Not content with the trouble he has already brought on Miguel, Lorenzo continues to persecute liim with his power of wealtli. lie schemes that the insurance ou Miguel's properly shall lapse, and then bribes a half-witted liov to set lire to the building.-. lie next kidnaps Miguel's young girl. but. the Mills of Cod are grinding, and Lorenzo is fast drawing into their terrible clutch. Maria, had a sister. Cuilia. a remarkably beautiful woman, • who has I'iid herself out to fascinate Lorenzo and avenge her sister's death, finally the arch villain is trapped by the woman, and Miguel is restored to his little daughter. Taking advantage of the excitement Lorenzo escapes, and dis-gui-ed. returns to the abode of his halfwitted accomplice. But his old ally, with the memory of his awful deed before his eves, has become hi- enemy. Under the pretence of talking in secret he lures him into ail upper room, and locking the door, throws the key out of the ' widow, then tells Lorenzo he has lired the house. No escape is there, and 1 blinded and choked by the scorching tlanies. Lorenzo -ntl'ers the awful fate of a burning death, crushed in "The , Mills of the Cods." To-night is the only opportunity left to view this powerful masterpiece, and intending patrons will need to arrive early to secure a seat. On Easter Monday there will be a complete change of programme.
