ATHLETICS.
lIILLSBOROUGII SPORTS. The Hillsborough sports, which were held in Mr. H. C. Sampson's pretty grounds, Egmont Road, proved very successful, although the weather conditions in the morning kept a largo number away. Just as a commencement was being made, heavy rain fell and caused ail adjournment to the Hall, where it was decided to postpone the sports. However by 2 p:m. the rain cleared, and a gentle wind quickly drying the ground the committee wisely elected to carry out the programme; and so keen did all work that the Hall will benefit to the extent of about £lO as the result. The sheepguessing was a veritable gold mine. The sheep was presented bv -Mr. J. R. Hill, who tied for first place, and presented his half to the committee. The secretary, Mr. L. W. Bishop, got through a vast amount of work expeditiously and without bustle, being courteous to everyone. The handicapper, Mr. X. W. Hill, kept his fields well together, the starter, Mr. J. W. Bishop, got them well away, and the judges, Messrs. IT. Oke.v, M.P., and J. S. Connett, gave their decisions
promptly. Messrs. -T. R. Hill, events steward, and T. Smellie, marksman, performed their duties splendidly. The events were all well contested, the Kaimiro contingent proving most successful.
