The death occurred in Wellington on Wednesday of Mr. Thomas James Porter, for twenty years manager of the I Oak Hotel, iisred forty-eight years. He leaves a wife and son. At the meeting of the Taranaki County Council this week a vote of sympathy with Mr. W. Bewiey in his recent very sad bereavement was passed. Mr. Felix McGuire, ex-M.H.R. for Ilawora, is leaving Taranaki shortly to take up his residence in Auckland, where he has large property interests. He has just disposed of his homestead, ''Mount Royal," Okaiawa, to Mr. J. 11. Sellars. The friends of Mr. Oscar Symes will lie glad to learn that more reassuring news has been received with regard to the state of his health. He is, however. still under tlie doctor's care at the hospital, Te Kuiti (says the Patea Press).
A quiet wedding took place in the Te Henui Church on Thursday, when Mr. G. W. Slade. of New Plymouth, was married to Miss Alice Maud Boulton, daughter of Mrs. Bonlton, of Devon street. The Rev. J. A. Kempthorne was tlie oll'iciating clergyman.
