THE ROTORUA BATHS.

♦ DR. BERTRAM EXPLAINS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Rotorua, Last Night. In connection with the trouble with the bath attendants, Dr. llertram, in a statement to the press, stated that he was placed in a false position by the published precis of his remarks to the stair, as it would appear that he had unwarrantably interfered with the management of the institution. Having had on several occasions serious complaints regarding the following out of his prescriptions, he had communicated with Dr. Scott, who invited him to state his complaints before the staff. The complaints were that the temperatures of the baths were not adhered to: that patients were left in the baths without being visited by the attendants: and that the times of the baths were exceeded. He had stressed the risk of fatalities in any of these cases, and warned the attendants that if such occurred it would mean that the whole staff would suffer, innocent as well as guilty. Dr. llertram pointed out that the paragraph gave the impression that he told the staff that if his prescriptions were not carried out correctly he would secure the dismissal of the whole staff. He merely stated that in the event of a fatality a wholesale dismissal would be imperative.
