SWIMMING.

The children attending the West End swimming classes at the .Municipal Baths finished their swimming tests yesterday. During the season the hoys' roll numbered 30, and the girls' 30. Out of these IS hoys and 13 girls gained certificates. The longest distance swim was accomplished by Myra Johnson and Raymond Cock. The tests were taken under the supervision of Messrs. Bary, Morris and Tabor. The following is the list of the children and the distances swum:-—Ray-mond Cock l'/a miles, Norman Buckinan l.'/i miles, Monty Vatcs 1 mile, Henson Jury half mile, Norman Brokenshire 733 yd.s. Although not favored with the best summer weather conditions, the Inglewood Swimming Club had a very successful carnival on Thursday. The baths have been well patronised this season. Mr. A. Pitman proved the right man in the right place. A number of young swimmers were seen in action who show good promise. The New Plymouth contingent who were present competed very freely, but were not too successful, most of the races falling to Stratford and local competitors. The New Plymouth closing carnival on Thursday evening next should be a gala night. Splendid trophies are being presented for. competition, and should induce large entries Uoiu all over the province.
