ENTERTAINMENTS.
MIRTH AND MUSIC. On Monday evening next the Theatre Royal will resound to the sounds of mirth and music when St. Patrick's feast day will be honored by a concert worthy of the town. In addition to those already mentioned as intending contributors to the programme, Miss Eileen McGuire, of Wanganui. has been engaged to sing. Like Miss Ethel Rae, of Auckland, she will come to us with a reputation as a vocalist of more than ordinary talent, whose work is marked by true artistic spirit. It is to be hoped the enterprise of the members of the programme committee will be rewarded as it deserves. They are certainly sparing no pains in their endeavours to give the public the best. For, when all is said and done, that is undeniably the best policy. The programme should suit all tastes, comic items and national dances being judiciously sandwiched in between songs, sentimental or patriotic, or both. Charges for admission to the concert, which will be under the auspices of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society, are very moderate, as may be seen on reference to the advertisement in another column. EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. The new programme to be screened for the first time at the matinee this afternoon, includes a great fox-hunting picture, nearly 20(10 feet in length, entitled, "The Badminton Hunt." This popular picture success was photographed in the glorious West Country, the home 01 magnificent horses, clever riders, iind the best known pack of hounds in the world. A varied and novel programme of events and competitions has been arranged, including Aunt Sally, pony weight-guessing, stepping the chain, quoit competition, etc. Donkey rides and many other children's sports will be conducted throughout the . day. liberal prizes having been donated.
