Tin-: inglkwood < aunival. was nut ;tn ideal day fur si swimming carnival, t!i** weather in tin* morning being showery, whilst in tin; afternoon the, wind blew rather :i shade cooler than was pt-rli p ~ comforta hie for cither the iiimjx'titoi.-- or the -pee la tors. Nevertheless the attendance u! lioth was distinctly encouraging at the Jnglewood ,\lunici|ial Maths on the occasion of their daylight carnival. The baths this year, under the. custodianship of Mr. Pitman, have been well patronised, and as a result many of the young Inglewood swimmers, particularly among the ladies, show great promise. A strong contingent of New Plymouth swimmers went out by brake, and assisted at Mm ) carnival, their presence adding nincli to its success. Stratford was also represented liv two well-known exponents, Kiveil and Masters, who both annexed prizes. The races throughout, the afternoon were keenly contested. (.'lose li'.lishes resulted, the handlcappers, Messrs. Gibbs, Sutherland and Pitman, being fairly correct in their estimate of the competitors' capabilities. The meeting was well conducted, though the wails between the events might perhaps have been curtailed. The secretary. Mr. X. Sutherland, had a good grip of his work, and so, too, had the other oiVicials, viz., Messrs. R. Geddes (starter). Geo. Dennett. F. Thomson. \V. Ogier (swimming judges), ,1.
