Before the shooting they, and other companions, went for a taxi drive about the city and to Congee. The cau-e of the shooting is unexplained. A previous wire stated that Edgar 'Alfred Hatton. a bookmaker, with a young woman, after a drive in a taxi-cab. "entered the bar of a hotel in the city. The couple were having a drink, when Hatton is alleged to have drawn a revolver and lired at the woman, wounding licr in the left breast. Then Hatton fired twice at himself, the bullets entering his head. Hatton is in a serious condition. The woman gave her names :i~ Violet Coghlan.
