A new world's record is claimed for a Chicago swimmer in connection with a meet held in the city named on January 10. Here is the shape in which the news came: "Using a single powerful single back over-arm stroke with a crawl kick, Harry J. Hebner. of the Illinois Athletic Club, last night established a new world's record of Imin SU'/vSec. for the l">Oyds back-stroke in the. Central Amateur Athletic Union's championships, held in the Illinois Club's tank. Harold Buckland. of the Milwaukee Athletic Club, was second. The former record of lmin 52see. was also held by Hebner. and was made in the championships held last February. All the timers agreed as to last night's performance, and application will be made to the national body to have Hebner credited with the record. The marvellous I.A.C. natator went into the lead at the crack of the pistol, and by the use of his powerful stroke gained five yards on his nearest competitor in the first 20 yards in advance of Harold i Buckland. of Milwaukee."
