- . - ' mm ALLEGED DEFALCATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dargaville, Last Night. The suspicion created by the prolonged absence, of the chief clerk of the Waivoa stores, Limited, led to an examination of his hooks. Defalcations amounting to several hundred pounds arc alleged to have been discovered. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. He is supposed to have left the Dominion. A NATIVE REJOINDER. Gisborne, Last Night. The natives at the Hui, at Manutuke are busily engaged in a discussion on the Hon. Berries' policy speech delivered on Wednesday. They intend to prepare a reply to Mr. Herries; and this will probably be available for publication as a re'presentatiw opinion of the whole Maori race. W.C.T.U. Nelson. Last Night. The W.C.T.U. Convention this afternoon dealt with departmental reports, special interest attaching to that of the domestic science department. The evening sitting was occupied witli papers by Mrs. Bendely. on work for the enfranchised, a discussion of the social problem, and bv Mrs. Fell on treatment of wastrels, beins' a description of the methods adopted in Switzerland.
