AX IN VERC ARGILL. CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Friday. At the Supreme Court sessions to-day, William Jolin Richards, 44 years of age, was charged with stealing a bicycle at Waianawa, a mob of cows at Edendale, and a mob of steers at Clinton. He was sentenced to one year's imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to run concurrently, and to detention for reformative treatment for a period not exceedin" five years. Prisoner arrived from England a year ago, and deserted his wife and two children, and has been goino- under numerous aliases. The Crown Prosecutor stated that prisoner had £330 in the Bank 1 of New Zealand and £B7 in the Post Office Savings Bank. When arrested he had a loaded revolver in his possession, which he said that he intended using if interfered with. The police described him as a cunning ruffian.
