Sir James Mills passed through on his way to Wellington, but informed a reporter that he had no news regarding | ihe trouble with the engineers . AN INCONCLUSIVE CONFERENCE. Wellington, Last Night. The main interest in the marine engineers' dispute with the Union Com-, pany centred to-day in the conference of representatives of the parties. This was held at the Prime Minister's office. The Hon. W. F. Massey, who is also Minister of Labor, presided. The Union Company was represented by Messrs. D. A. Aitken (Assistant-General Manager), Smith (head office), and W. A. Kennedy (Wellington Manager). The Engineers' Institute delegates were Messrs. T. Wallace (Secretary), S. D. Ilanna (Auckland Secretary), and W. If. Hampton. The position was exhaustively discussed from 4.30 to 7.15 p.m., when an adjournment was made till 10 a.m. to-morrow, to enable Sir James Mills, managing-director of the Company, to be present. The proceedings so far are inconclusive, and no statement is available for publication.The delegates are pledged not to divulge anything, but it is believed that the Inadoption of the Australian award in New Zealand.
