The finishes of most of the contests were of an interesting character, especially in the sawing an d chopping; events, two dead heats being re<?ordwl,. which spoke well for the local liandicappers. The judges, Messrs 0. Jupp iind.Ai.lldne liad to 'he on the alert, ■and their, prompt decisions gave gen. eral satisfaction. H. L. Slight, oft scratch,: showed a good turn of speed •and gathered in the, stakes in,most of the running events. Messrs H. Oxenham and : C. Barnitjt,' as secretaries, <rot •through th'bk--work splendidly, and with the rpst of. Uie .'committee, are to he congratulated ' for bring the 1913 sports -through' with'' flying fcolors. A dance followed in the evening, the hall being packed tojts utmost:capacity, although Witnatic conditions were against danchur. AH seemed to thoroughly enjoy the evening, however. ■ The music was supplied by Miss Rattenbury, of Tongaporutu, And Miss K, Murray. Songs were also tendered during the evening, which were much appreciated by the company.
