COMPANY'S RECORDS GONE.
BUSINESS MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 22. A business man, named Frederick John Craddock, who was arrested at Auckland in the middle of tlie week, and remanded to appear at Christchurch, on a charge of having stolen a number of the records (such as the private ledger, cash book, and stock sheets) of the Craddock Hardware Company, Ltd., of Christchurch, was brought before Mr. E. C. Cutten this morning.
Chief-Detective McMahon asked that prisoner be remanded to appear at Auckland on Wednesday. He stated that the police had received a telegram intimating 4hat the directors of the company desired the case to be tried at Auckland, and that they were on their way up there for that purpose. The Tnagistrate remarked that the dif-, ficulty was that, in case of a committal here, all the witnesses would have to be brought, at heavy expense from Christchurch. Mr. McMahon: The information was laid by the directors, not by the police, and I think that when the proceedings conic on, your Worship will discover that matters will be fixed up, so that there will be no committal.
Mr. Singer, who appeared for accused, stated Unit he would have no objection (if there were o committal) to the case going to Chrißtchnndi for trial.
The macistrate thereupon aareed ,to accused being remanded to appear at Auckland on Wednesday. ' and prisoner was released on bail of two sureties provided bv relatives.
