THE WAR IX THE AIR. Vienna, February 23. A Bulgarian aeroplane, piloted by a Russian lieutenant, fell into Adrianople. The aviator was imprisoned. AX INDEMNITY WANTED. Sofia, February 23. The Minister of Finance has issued a statement that an indemnity will be an essential factor at the conclusion of peace. This is rendered necessary as the result of the resumption of the war, and because the annexed provinces have been so devastated and depopulated as not to afford sufficient resources to meet ihe financial burdens, and also because the national economy of the Allies has been seriously affected. The Telegraph's war correspondent says that the inactivity of the Allies is difficult to explain. Possibly the failure of Greek co-operation has led to an alteration of the plans. The failure is due to a misunderstanding over Salonika. The Daily Mail says that Sofia is only open to peace negotiations on condition of a new frontier being delimited nearer to Constantinople than hitherto. Sofia has demanded that Turkey shall demobilise within fifteen days of the reopening of negotiations, and the payment of an indemnity. It is rumored in Belgrade that the Allies and the Turks arc secretly negotiating for peace.

PEACE BY EXHAUSTION. TIRED OF WAR. Received 24, 10.50 pjn. Constantinople, February 24. The Government is confident that it can hold Chataldja and Bulair indefinitely, and is still hopeful of European complications or the exhaustion oi the Allies by delay. It is believed that Adrianople will he able to withstand a siege .jtill the end of March. Other accounts telegraphed from Scutari say that it will he difficult to prolong the siege beyond seven days. The main body of Turks will ho compelled to remain in the retrenchments at Chataldja, owing to floods. An artillerv duel is in progress on the east front of Adrianople. Bucharest, February 24.

The Cabinet has agreed to accept the Powers' mediation. M. Filapcsco dissented, and has resigned. Sofia. February 24. M. Gueschoff has informed the Powers that he will refer their offer of mediation to the Cabinet. He nUo declined to consent to a neutral zone. M. Karagatch is prepared.to adhere to the parties' first proposition, authorising foreigners to leave the Turkish lines. Athens, February 24. Greek torpedoers are patrolling the Adriatic and lonian seas, on the look-out for the Hamidioh.
