CHEAP MARTYRDOM. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, February 20. The Chronicle says the comfort of the modern humanised prison has made political martyrdom far too cheap. Every outrage has merely replenished the coffers of the suffragette societies. Monetary penalties should be exacted.
NUMEROUS OUTBREAKS.
ASSAULT AND VANDALISM.
London. February 20. Paraffined cotton wads were found near the Kew Gardens teahouse. The police, at four in the morning, chased and captured Joyce Locke and Lilian Lenton, young well-dressed women, near the cricket ground. Portmanteaux, containing a saw, hammer and paraffined tow, were dropped by the fugitives. Locke, at Richmond Police Court, threatened a hunger strike if not al lowed bail. The Magistrate replied: "We are not to be frightened by in timklation." Locke then threw a book at the Magistrate, and was ejected, struggling violently. Both prisoners Were remanded in custody.
The damage to Mr. Lloyd George's house is estimated at .£IOOO. Sir George, Riddell, the owner of Mr. Lloyd George's house, is a keen suffragist. The Star says the State must make a stand against bomb outrages. Already a grave disparity exists between the suffragists and other prisoners. Two thousand letters and twenty pillar boxes have been damaged in Edinburgh. Fires in the chief branch at Leith and the sorting office at Northampton were extinguished.

Miss Christabel! Pankhnrst. interviewed, said that she rejoiced at the wanton bomb outrage. The suffragists were fighting for a resolution.
