Lord and Lady Liverpool will, visit Taihape on Wednesday, 26th inst. A London cablegram announces the death of Mr. Louis Ik-eke, the well-known Australian novelist.
In all probability Mr. John P. Luke will be a candidate for the Wellington Mayoralty in April. p A London cablegram report* that Jvubelik, the violinist, is seriously ill at , his home in Bohemia. Mr. Malcolm Ross, of Wellington, will leave shortly on a year's trip to Europe. He sails from Sydney on April 2nd. Mr. W. P. Xieol has been appointed secretary of the Moturoa Lodge of Druids, in succession to Mr. H. Gilbert, resigned. The Wairarapa Daily Times says: "It is rumoured that Mr. 6. Harold Smith, of Pahiatua, will be among those who are to be appointed to the Upper House shortly." The president of the union and the flev. J. W. Burton were appointed by the Methodist Conference to represent the church in New Zealand at an iraportnnt conference on Foreign Mission Avork. to be hold in Sydney early next year. Mr. J. If. Rowe, manager of the Hunk of Xew South Wales, Inglewood, wellknown in connection with the Operatic Society here, (has received (no lice of transfer to the position of manager of the. bank's branch at Oamaru. He will be succeeded hy Mr. Esse, of Wavorley, whose place will be taken by Mr. Christie, of Napier.
