MAPOURIKA DISPUTE.
NEW SCALE OP MANTXING AGREED UPON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. The Minister for Marine (the Hon. F. > M. B. Fisher) stated this afternoon that while 011 a visit to the West Coast he found trade very much dislocated and the public very much embarrassed by the irregular and infrequent boat service. He had promised, on return to Wellington, to do his best to get the old service restored, and, immediately on arrival at Wellington, he was able to bring ~ the two parties together in connection with the Mapourika dispute. The result of the conference, which took place yesterday, had been entirely satisfactory. A new scale was agreed upon as a basis upon which the Mapourika should be ' ■ run. hi place of the present scale of three firemen, two trimmers and three greasers, the company is to employ six firemen and three greasers at the'rate of £lO a month. It was also agreed that the Minister of Marine shall, if necessary, he asked to exercise his power under section 57 of the Shipping and Seamen's Amendment Act, 1909, to enable this mutual agreement to be put into force. This agreement was signed 'by representatives of both parties, and has since been confirmed by the executive of the Seamen's Union,'and the general manager of the Union Company.
