LAWN TENNIS
Very little of note lias occurred locally in the tennis world this week. This afternoon should see the New Plymouth Club's handicap and championship matches advanced a further stage, and some interestine bouts should take place. The Park Club is sending the following team to Waitara this afternoon to engage in a match against the local club: —Mioses Ambury, White and Pellew, Mrs. Beadle, Messrs White, Goodacre, Carter, Parker. Bamfield and Cottier. The Fitzroy Club's combined handicap tournament, has been won by -A. Ambnrv, senr.. and Miss Arthur. The handicap singles have just begun. I', .lackson now heads the men's ladder, having beaten Lints after a clo-e game by 00 — ■jli. The lirst six are as follow: —Tackson. Lints. Broadmore, Smith. Evans and Sole. Miss Potier holds the top rung of the ladies' ladder, and next in order comes Misses West. Ford. Arthur, .lackson and Sole. Endeavors are being made to arrange a match against the Stratford Club, at Stratford, next week.
Australian tennis players are' already looking forward to regaining the Davis Cup. Anthony Wilding, the Xew Zealander, states that he hopes to arrange business to enable him not only to defend the title of champion of England, but also to represent Australia for the Davis Cup. Brookes has intimated that he will not be able to go to England in 1013. but he will be available in 1014 if Britain retains the cup.
