Al Pa tea on Wednesday the local club defeated Hawera in the banner competition bv 73 games to U5. First tlie tournament and then the races have disturbed the even tenor of bowls during the last two or three weeks, and the various club competitions have a lot of leeway to make up. Xext week, however, should provide a clear run.

I The Fitzrov Club has its beginners' I singles, handicap pairs and club championship singles under way. The Fitzrov men. by the way, went, tinder to | Xew Plymouth in last Thursday's match, but they were handicapped to , some extent on account of the races proving a counter-attraction for some of the best players. It is regrettable that the West EndWaitara match was postponed on account of the races, seeing that there are already several unplayed matches pending. If a few wet Thursdays eventuate the competition will drag on long after it should be finished and friendly end of-season games will ill many cases be out of the question. The matches set down for decision next Thursday are as follow:—Xew Plymouth v. Waitara, at Xew Plymouth; West End v. Inglewood, at West End; Fitzroy v. Stratford, at Inglewood. In the semi-final for the championship cup of the Xew Plymouth Club. O. Greyplays A. K. Smart and 11. Smart plays Govett. In the fourth round of the singles A. Binnie plays 0. C. Morey, Firth plays Fraser (receive 4). 11. Smart plays Marks (receive 7), and A. K. Smart plays Jenkins'on (receives 6). In the semi-final for the pairs, Luscombe and Marks beat Paid and Plumtree, and Blundell and Goldwater beat Bradbury and -T. C. Morey (receive 3). , The Xew Plymouth Club will probably take six rinks to Auckland on Saturday next. 22nd inst. They will pit themselves against a number of Auckland clubs, and on Wednesday, 2Gth, they will play the Auckland CJub for the cup. which is annually competed for by the two clubs. The team will be in Auckland for a week. The New Plymouth Club has been definitely advised that St. John's, Wanganui, will be their visitors at Easter. On Easter Saturday morning they will play against their hosts, and in the afternoon they will most likely meet Fitzroy.

The Wanganui Club will visit New Plymouth some time in March, on a date yet to be arranged.
