—, NOR'-WESTER IN ASHBURTOX. (Per Press Association). Ashburton, Last Night. A furious old time nor'-west gale sprang up a t about ten o'clock this morning, and continued without signs of abatement up to 2 o'clock. It was the worst experienced here for some years, and it is feared will cause great loss all over the country side, where the grain generally is in stook or being cut or stooked. and, therefore, likely to he blown out. Orchardists in the town and suburbs snll'ered severely, and minor damage is reported to several glass verandahs in the town. THE BOY BURGLAR. Auckland, Last Night. The boy burglar Banbury, recently sentenced, again attempted to escape from' custody by tampering with the prison window this morning. On ap- ; pearing subsequently in Court Banbury was warned by the Magistrate. SANE OR INSANE? Auckland, Lust Night. An escapee from the mental hospital named Johnston, who returned to-day, has been released for a period not exceeding 28 days. Under the Act, if by that time he gets two doctors to testify to his sanity he will he unconditionally discharged.
