The present position with regard to : the trouble with slaughtermen is im- \ proving and it is reported that at all ' The' works hi Canterbury more butchers ■ started this morning, and that applici--5 tions are coming in'still from men who - are anxious to take up work. Some of . the men who have applied and whose ? «ervices have been accepted have not i yet started work, as in some other in- ; stances they are at present in the eoun- , try and have to give a week's notice to . their present employers. So far. the , works are not fully maimed, and it is , not expected that the full output will be . obtained for some time. In the mean- . time it is considered' inadvisable for farmers to rush their stock into the ; market, since, were there large numbers to come forward it would be impossible ; to deal with them expeditiously. The ; applications being received for slaughtermen's work are coming forward from all parts of the district, and judsfmg by the. present indications the number' at present manning the boards will be greatlv augumented during the next few davs. "
