AN AUDACIOUS THEFT.
IX TOWN LAST NIGHT. . Mr. fl. H. Saunders, 'manager of the local Theatres, was returning home in company with his wife and brother-in-law last night at about 11 o'clock when on Hearing thp corner of Liardet and Gilbert streets ho felt a sudden tug at thp two bags he was carrying. One was taken, and quickly turning roiia ' he made after the thief, whom he chased around the street near the Central .School. Mr. Saunders was gaining steadily on his quarry when he had the misfortune to slip and fall, {lie (hief-set-ting clean away with the bag. which contained a goodly sum of money. The other bag, unfortunately for Mr. Saunders, was an empty one.' The police were immediately on the scene, but without success.
The police report that there are some very bad characters about thp town iust now. attracted, no doubt, bv the v-es. and people would therefore'be well advised to take every precaution.
