THE POLICE FORCE.
IMPORTANT CHANCES. (Per Press Association). Wellington. Last Night. Important new regulations in regard to administration and control of the police force will appear in a supplementary Cazette to-morrow. One of these deals with the personnel. Owing to the growth of work at the four chief centres the inspector? are unable to devote as much time to supervision a3 is desirable, and to remedy this it is proposed, tlie Minister of Justice stated to-night, to make the chief police officers in the four centres—lnspectors Ellison, Kelly, Mitchell and Dwyer —superintendents, and the following promotions and transfers will take place in consequence of the change in rank of the present in-spectors:—Sub-inspector Hen drey will come to Wellington and act as inspector under Superintendent Ellison; Subinspector McGrath, of Chrislehurch. will go to Auckland as inspector, under Superintendent 'Mitchell; Senior-sergeants Johnston and McKinnon will be promoted to the rank of sub-inspectors, and will take the place of the sub-inspectors wlio are being promoted. Senior-sergeant Johnston going to Auckland and Seniorsergeant McKinnon going to Christchurch. There are a number of vaean- ' cies in the ranks of the sergeants, caused ' by deaths, retirements and promotions. These will be filled shortly, ar.d probably before the end of the present month there will be increases of pay in various grades of the service, which, 1 with the changes mentioned, will come into force on April 1.
