THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS,

Wanganui, Last' Night, i he Now Zealand Amateur championships were continued this evening in fine weather. There was another large attendance of the public. .The following are the results of the champion events:

220 yds Breast Stroke Championship. The starters were C. Atkinson (Opawa. world's record holder), L. Poison (East Christchurch, holder of the championship), C. 11. Neal (Wellington), and A. Squire (Wanganui). The men got awav well together. Atkinson lead at the first turning, and at the next was four feet in front of Poison. At a hundred yards the Opawa crack increased his lead to about six yards, with Poison. Neal and Squire well together. Squire' shortly afterwards gave up, and at the next turn Poison also retired. Atkinson then went ahead and won in fine style by about 2G yards from Neal. Time," 3 min ssec. Atkinson beating his own world's record by five and two-fifth seconds.

880 Yards Championship. The starters were P. Seymour, H. B. C. Welson (Waitemata), E. Pfankuch (Blenheim), C. II H. Rich (Opawa), and M. E. Champion (Waitemata). At 100 yards Rich had fallen back. Seymour, Champion and Welson keeping in line. These three kept in line for some distance, drawing further away from !!ich. Progress was made in this manner until after three hundred yards had been traversed, when Kicli withdrew. Thorn was no chanp 1 ? in the positions until there were but 75 yards to go, when Champion drew mht awav from Welson, Seymour being well back. Champion finished well, and won by about nine yards, with Seymour some fifteen yards away third. Time, 12min losec., beating the record by 2 l-ssee. 12min 23 l-s,sec was Welson's time, while ■Seymour covered the journev in 12min 30 4-ssec. The finishers all beat the standard time.

100 Yards Intorclub Handicap.—Wilson (Napier), 12sec. 1; Laing (Inglewood), 13see. 2; Sterling (East Christchurch). 3. Time. 79sec.

The final of the Interchib Handicap tor ladies is to be swum (to-morrow. Spring Board Dive.—Gemmell (Opawa) 1; Poison (Sydenham) 2; Atkinson (Opawa) 3.

Polo.—Wanganui A heat Canterbury B bv two goals to nil; Canterbury A beat Nelson by six goals to nil.
