INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The farewell social to the Rev. Father .Mac Manns, which was held in the Parish llall on Monday evening, was largely attended by residents of Ingle wood, in addition to members of the Catholic Church, which was only to be expected, as this gentleman is deservedly popular among all classes of the community. The social portion -was allowed to get well under way, and after an interval spent in dancing, the music for which was provided by .\lr. M. Fowler, and an extra played by Miss Curd, a presentation of a purse of sovereigns from the residents of Jnglewood was made by Mr. J. H. Rowe, who read the text of the illuminated address, which was suitably responded to by the recipient. The Rev. Dean McKenna also thanked the residents of Inglewood for the many kindnesses extended to Father MacManus during his stay.
Then Mine another presentation. This time it was a travelling ease given by the Children of Marv and presented by .Miss Stevens on their behalf, followed by a ease of pipes and tobacco pouch by the Hibernians, presented bv Mr. MacMa h on. T understand that the Convent children also made a presentation to Father MacManus in the morning. Dancing was indulged in for the remainder of the evening, and the usual plentiful supper and good flood conduced greatly to the enjoyment. Owing to an unfortunate error the electric lights were all turned out as usual at 12 o'clock, which happened to occur in the midst of a set of lancers, naturally causing great consternation. Instructions had been given that the lights were, to be kept going until one o'clock, hut. as stated, some misunderstanding intervened. A presentation of a gold cross was also made next morning to Miss Xisdale (who has been housekeeper to the rev. gentleman during his stay here) by the parishioners. The illuminated address, which was not completed in time for framing, will be forwarded to Father MicMa nus when completed. I understand that during the term (a lillic over two years) in which Father MaeManus has had charge of this parish he has. amongst other work, been instrumental in reducing the debt, which formerly stood at CI7OO, on the parish bv USIIfI. which fact alone testifies to his zeal and energy.
