THE EXPRESS COMPANY'S FIRE. (Per Press Association). Wellington, Wednesday. Insurances on last night's fire at the New Zealand Express Company's store were £2500 in the New Zealand Insurance Company. About 9 o'clock to-night a fire was discovered in the premises of Scott and Wilson. Venetian blind makers, in St. Andrew street. The fire was speedily subdued, but practically the whole of the centre portion of the factory was gutted, and fairly extensive damage done. The building was insured for £45(1 in the National Office., and the stock for £OSO in the Victoria Office. The extent of the damage is unknown tonight. EIRE AT STRATHMOT'E. A fire occurred at Strath more on Sunday night, whereby the premises of Mr. T. Jordan was destroyed totally, The building was a four-roomed one, comprising a saddler's shop, billiard room, and two rooms in occupation as a dwelling. Mr. Jordan left the place in the afternoon on Sunday, when everything appeared safe, and the first; news he received of his loss was on Monday morn ing after spending the night in Stratford. The origin of the outbreak « a complete mystery. The front of the premises was occupied as a saddler's shop behind which was a billiard room, an;" at the back of these were two dwelling rooms. There was an insurance of aboul £!lf)0 on the building and stock, but it is understood Mr. Jordan estimates hi: loss at quite equal to this a mount.
