Mr. .T. IT. Parker, who has been ill for the past two or three weeks, is. his friends will be glad to learn, slowly recovering.

Tn the Te Hojiui Church last week Miss Alice -Takes, third daughter (if Mr. P. .Takes, Fitzrov, was married to Mr. Xorma.n Berridge. of Westown. Mr. A. Mill, telegraph supervisor, Auckland, Mr. F. M. Scully, accountant, New Plymouth, and Mr. Lewis Anderson, clerk, Dunedin. have been nominated as representatives of the Post avid Telegraph Department on the Public Service Appeal Board, which is to be elected in May. Each of the two main branches of the Department is entitled to return one member of the Board.

A Capetown cablegram reports the death of Sir Cordon Sprigg, at the age of 83 years. TTe was on several occasions Prime Minister of Cape Colony.

The Education Board lias been advised that Miss Kennedy, M.A., of Gore, is finable to take up the position offered to her on the staff of the Stratford Dis' trict ITigh School, owing to her having previously accepted a position at Ashburton.

A cablegram in the Sydney Sun says: •'•'The San Francisco Call declares that it is rumored in London that the King's health is in a dangerous condition. A recent cold, coupled with chronic dyspepscia, is said to have seriously affected his heart. The Court physicians are reticent, and concerted efforts are being made to suppress information. Owing to this illness (says the Call) the King unable to take part in the Royal festivities at Christinas, and for months past Tie has been living on soups, biscuits' dipped in warm milk, and a little fniit. The Queen has taken personal charge of the King's diet, and two eminent doctors are in constant attendance."
