NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY REPORT. On Friday, January 24, for my usual Kaponga weaner fair and cattle sale I had a very big entry and a big attendance of buyers. Most of the weaners yarded were small, being whey fed, but were all good-colored cattle. Bidding throughout was keen, exceptionally so for a line of picked Jersey heifers yarded by Mr. Martin Steiner. These were started at 455, and were secured by Mr. C Crowley, after brisk competition, at £3 Is 6d. The demand for good forward cows and bulls was first-class, everything, with the exception of a pen of small weaner steers, being cleared at the following rates—Jersey weaner heifers £2 9s to £3 Is Gd, grade heifers £1 lis Gd to £1 17s Od, small £1 4s 6d, weaner steers £1 10s 6d to £1 10s, mixed weaners £ 1 8s ;6d to £1 12s 6d, ) bulls £3 9s to £6 (according to weight), fat working bullocks £5 18s. fat heifers £5 4s, fat cows £5 10s to £6 4s, forward cows £4 14s to £5 3s, store cows £3 15s Gd to £4 ss, small or aged £1 4s Gd to £2 10s, lambs 9s. -

Matthews, Bennett and Co. report a good yarding of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday, January 29, when late rates were fully maintained, with the exception of weaners, for which there was not much demand. At Matau sheep fair on the 30th. we were short oi 1000 sheep owing to the Waitara river being in flood, and two vendors were unable to cross with stock. We had a good attendance, and with the exception of shorn lambs, which were neglected, bidding was good throughout, and we sold most of the sheep at the hammer.
