' The Hector Memorial Committee re- ' ported to the Zealandia Institute to- ■ day that they were unanimously of opin--1 ion that the Hector Medal for 1013 ■ should he awarded to Professor Easterfield, of Victoria College, for distinguished work in chemical research, especially in connection with New Zealand produce, the work having a direct as well as an indirect bearing on the scientific knowledge, life and prosperity of the community. The recommendation was adopted. Mr. Thomson, chairman of the award committee, read a letter from Prof. Orme Masson expressing the opinion that the original intention of the trust was to make an award for work done in New Zealand or not. It was decided to obtain legal opinion whether the deed of trust, being in contravention of the report of the Hector Memorial , Committee adopted by the Board of Commerce, could be altered.
