WHITE SLAVE TRAFFIC.

NEW ZEALAND NOT WHOLLY FREE. Commenting upon the white slave traffic editorially, the Auckland Star says: "New Zealand is for the most part free from this class of crime, but last week in our Police Court statements were made by the police which indicated that this country may not be wholly free from such offences as would come within the provisions of the White Slave Traffic Bill. Tn dealing with offenders we cannot refrain from remarking that to convict and defer sentence, provided the criminal leaves the country, may be an easy and inexpensive method, but it cannot he regarded as entirely satisfactory. Our law should mete'out to those who batten on the earnings of unfortunate women an adequate punishment, and not turn (hem loose to carry on (heir nefarious practices in some other community."
