THE AUCKLAND EXHIBITION. Jiy Telegraph—Press Association. Timarn, Last Night. A meeting of the delegates of local bodies was held to-day to consider whether an organised attempt should be made for the representation of South Canterbury at the Auckland Exhibition. A motion was carried. alUmiing the desirability of having South Canterbury represented, and a committee was appointed to obtain further information and report in a fortnight. Suggestions included the collecting of sheaves of grain in the present harvest, and making a point of the scenic attractions by a model of Mount Cook. DESERTING FIREMEN. Duncdin, Last Night. Jn (he Police Court yesterday, James Nisbet and John Robertson, firemen, were charged with deserting from the TTurunui. Accused pleaded guilty, but said that bad food was the caiise of deserting. They said they had complained to the captain and the chief engineer, but no improvement took place. Nineteen men had left the ship since she sailed from Glasgow. The magistrate (Mr. Widdowson) said that if there was anything wrong, the mesa should complain to the captain, and if he would not remedy the matter, complain to the Minister of Marine, who would no doubt, make enquiries. Accused were sentenced to one month's imprisonment, with the reservation thaj; they be placed on board ship when it was leaving New Zealand.
