SCULLING.
A CHALLENGE FROM ARXST. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Received 24, 12.5 a.m. Sydney, January 23. Arnst lias deposited £IOO with the Sun newspaper, and has challenged Barry to row this year for the championship of the world and £SOO aside. He claims that Pcarce's challenge has lapsed, owinjr to his not having signed articles within three .months after lodging a deposit. Pearce, also, has not renewed his challenge after the expiration of the three months. Arnst, therefore, demands the first race with Barry. Arnst is willing to meet Pearce for £SOO or less aside in twelve weeks. Pearce could meet Barry in Ocwber, or let Arnst go if he wins. Arnst's backer offers Pearce £IOO towards his expenses if he beats Arnst. Pearce is emphatic on going to England on February 12, and will not row anyone.
