Mr. Hugo. Inspector of Fire Brigades tor the Dominion, is on an official visit to New Plymouth. It is stated that Captain Hamerton lms tendered lug resignation as Officer Commanding the Pa tea Eifles. The Eight Hon. AV. Ellison-Macart-ney, Uovenior-Designnte of Tasmania, lias been created a Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael ami St George.
Miss M; J. Macaulay, 11.A., of Dnnedin, has been appointed linst assistant mistress of the Ashlmrton High .School. Miss Mncaulay has been 011 the .stair of tile Balclutha High School. Colonel Sir W. 11. Manning. Governor of Xyassaland, has been appointed Governor of Jamaica, in succession to Sir 'Sydney Olivier, who has been appointed Permanent Secretary for Agriculture. At a meeting of the Stratford Borough Council last night, Cr. Ward was presented by the Council with a silver fruit and flower epergne, on the occasion of his resignation after serving twelve years as a member of the Council.
