FIRES.
ANOTHER BLAZE AT CAMBRIDGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. ! Cambridge, Wednesday. In the early hours of, this morning, Cambridge experienced another destructive fire, thus quickly following on the extensive damage wrought by Monday's conflagration, by which Crowther and Bell's livery stables were burnt right out, the owners suffering loss-to the extent of £2500, their insurance only being £1250. Yesterday the firm purchased stables owned by rival proprietors, and transferred their business to those quarters. It was at their new stables that the fire broke out this morning. Tlie whole structure and practically the whole plant therein was demolished. Sheds adjoining belonging to local storekeepers contained benzine, gunpowder and gelignite, and there was great excitement until these 'dangerous explosives were removed out of danger. The firemen worked nobly, and, thanks to their efforts and the fact that there was no wind blowing, the fire did not spread to the neighboring properties. Great sympathy is felt for Crowther and 801 l in their second loss of some hundreds of pounds, it being doubtful if any of their belongings are covered by insurance. The building was owned by Si'th Webb, and was valued at £40(1 and insured for £l3O in the Ocean Office. The cause of the fire was probably an accident through careless smoking, but in the meantime a man has been detained by the police on suspicion of having been on the premises at the time of the outbreak.
