SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.
| THE FARMERS SPEAK OUT: | By Telegraph—Press Association, t Christchurch, Last 2sight. At a meeting of the Xorth Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Xew Zealand Farmers' Union, this afternoon, the following resolutions were adopted: "That the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union recommend that the freezing companies try to settle the dispute with the Slaughtermen's Union by means of mutually appointed arbitrators; (2) that if the above course fails, the freezing companies 6houhl try to settle the matter with the members of the Slaughtermen's Union who uphold the principle of arbitration; (3) that if the whole body of the Slaughtermen's Union refuse to arbitrate, then we, as a Farmers' Union, for the protection of our own occupation, ask the freezing companies to allow us to man. the boards with free labor."
THE POSITION" AT WAITARA. Messrs. Borthwick advise us that the rumor we published yesterday regarding their closing down their Waitara wdrks next Saturday, has no foundation in fact. Their works, they inform us, will remain open as long as the butchers are willing to kill.
