POLLUTING RIVERS.
j DEPUTATION FROM FLANMILLERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland. Tuesday. A deputation from the Auckland Flaxnvillers' Association waited on Mr. Massey to draw attention to the fact that a summons was recently issued against a Ngaruawahia Ilaxmiller for polluting the Waikato River, whereas he had only washed fibre in the water. It was staled that if prosecutions were to be made they would mean the death-knell not only of flaxmilling but of the dairying industry. Mr. Massey replied that as"the Ngaruawahia case was still sub judice it was impossible to comment on it. He bad no doubt that desirable legislation would be brought down, although there would have to be a good deal "of give and take on the part of both those engaged in the flaxmilling industry and the Acclimatisation Societies who liad laid the information.
